The
Greenville Independent School District (GISD) aims
to provide each child with the opportunity to obtain a successful
and challenging learning experience which is intended to build a
good self-image and encourage a desire for lifelong learning. To
that end, a comprehensive instruction program is offered to meet
the needs of all students.
The GISD offers quality elementary and secondary education. More
than 60% of the GISD’s teachers, counselors, and administrators
hold advanced degrees.
Teaching the basics is at the core of Greenville ISD's program.
But students can also take advantage of many additional offerings,
including extracurricular activities and a comprehensive athletic
program. The regular education program is supplemented by programs
which cater to those with individual needs, including special education,
deaf education, and speech therapy.
District enrollment is divided among six elementary schools (grades
K through 4), one intermediate school (grades 5 and 6), one middle
school (grades 7 and 8), one high school, and an alternative learning
center, New Horizons, which provides high school level education
for former drop-outs and other students whose personal circumstances
preclude participation in the regular high school program.
